Battery protection Smart BatteryProtect The Smart BatteryProtect disconnects the battery from the less important loads before it is completely discharged (which would damage it) or before it no longer has enough energy to start the engine. By using Bluetooth to program the Smart BatteryProtect, all required on/off thresholds can be set. Alternatively, one of nine preset on/off thresholds can be set using the programming pin (see manual). If necessary, the Bluetooth function can be turned off. Protects the battery from deep discharge and can be used as a system on/off switch. Smart BatteryProtect disconnects the battery from the less important loads before it is completely discharged (which would damage it) or before it no longer has enough energy to start the engine. The on/off input can be used as a system on/off switch. Bluetooth: Easy programming By using Bluetooth to program the Smart BatteryProtect, all required on/off thresholds can be set.Alternatively, one of nine preset on/off thresholds can be set using the programming pin (see manual).If necessary, the Bluetooth function can be turned off. Setting for lithium-ion batteries In this mode, the BatteryProtect can be controlled by the VE.Bus BMS. Extremely low power consumption This is important in the case of lithium-ion batteries, especially after shutdown due to low voltage level.Please refer to our lithium-ion battery data sheet and the VE.Bus BMS manual for more information. Overvoltage protection To prevent sensitive loads from being damaged by an overvoltage, the load is switched off whenever the DC voltage exceeds the value of 16.3 V or 32.6 V, respectively. Delayed alarm output The alarm output is activated when the battery voltage drops below the preset value for shutdown for more than 12 seconds. Therefore, turning on the engine will not activate the alarm. The alarm output is a short-circuit protected open collector output connected to the negative (minus) rail. Max. Current 50 mA. The alarm output is normally used to activate an audible signal, LED or relay. Delayed load disconnection and delayed reconnection The load is turned off 90 seconds after the battery voltage drops below the preset threshold. If the battery voltage rises again to the threshold for connection within this period (after the motor has been started, for example), the load is not switched off.the load is switched on again 30 seconds after the battery voltage exceeds the preset threshold for reconnection.

Charging cable compensation: Voltage losses on the charging cables are automatically compensated. Connection for battery temperature sensor (included): For lead-acid batteries (acid, gel, AGM), the charging voltage is automatically adjusted to the battery temperature, resulting in better full charging of the weaker battery in cold weather, and avoiding unnecessary battery gassing in summer temperatures. LiFePO4 batteries: Battery protection at high and especially at low temperatures ≤0°C. Charging aid for deep discharge lead acid batteries: Gentle pre-charging of the (lead-acid, -gel, -AGM) battery up to 8 V, then powerful support of the battery with consumers possibly still switched on.

Display and Bluetooth The display reads the parameters of the battery and controller. The parameters can be accessed with a smartphone or other Bluetooth-enabled device. Bluetooth can also be used to set up the system and change settings with VictronConnect. Internal temperature sensor and optional external measurement of battery voltage, temperature and current via Bluetooth. With a Smart Battery Sense, a BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor or a SmartShunt, battery voltage and temperature (and current, in the case of a BMV 712 or a SmartShunt) can be transmitted to one or more SmartSolar charge controllers. Recovery function for fully discharged batteries Will initiate charging even if the battery has been discharged to 0 volts. Will reconnect to a fully discharged lithium-ion battery with internal disconnect function.
